In 2023, I was on a quest to learn all about skincare. I wanted to read books that addressed my skincare needs as a Black woman. During my search, I came across Black Skin: The Definitive Skincare Guide  on Amazon. The book had glowing reviews and seemed very credible. After learning it was available at my local library, I immediately checked out a copy. I'm so glad I did. This book was such a fascinating and informative read. I recommend it to any POC who is interested in skincare. Keep reading to learn more about why I love (and recommend) this book.

  1. BS is comprehensive. It covers every question I could ask about my skin. Dija gets into the science

behind different procedures, products, and chemicals. I can tell she is a highly experienced aesthetician! Everything is explained in an easy-to-understand way. If this were the only skincare book you read, your skin would still thrive!

  2. I love that this book includes so many high-quality photos. The models have scars, stretch marks, acne, and other skin conditions. It normalizes “imperfect” skin of color. I felt seen when I looked at the photos. They reminded me that imperfect skin is normal. Every model in this book is beautiful in their own way. Their skin adds, not detracts from their looks. I never realized how pretty stretch marks could be until I saw them in this book!

  3. Product Hall of Fame: At the end of the book, the author includes a list of excellent products readers should consider adding to their routines. I love this! The list includes both affordable and expensive products. You can build an affordable skincare routine for you. Self-care is for everyone! It’s not just for the rich among us.

Black Skin is a mind-expanding read. Dija did an excellent job and I am so happy she wrote this book. It has significantly improved my skincare routine! Please comment below to let me know what skincare books you’ve read and whether you enjoyed them!
